Covid-19 update

Concerts are slowly beginning to take place in North Devon.
Organisers can now submit their events for this site by clicking on the link above ▲ or by following this link https://www.north-devon-concert-diary.org.uk/submit-your-concert-details.

Updated 28th October 2021

As we pass through the third step out of lockdown, members of choirs up and down the country find themselves to be the only organised activity to be restricted to singing indoors only in single groups of six singers. This was sprung on choirs not on the date that Step 3 guidance was set to be announced but eight-and-half days later on 18th May, after many choirs had undertaken comprehensive risk assessments to enable them to restart rehearsals on 17th May, as they had been led to believe by DCMS.
Choirs may now only rehearse in numbers if they are involved in preparation for “commercial activity”.
If you care about choral music, please sign the parliamentary petition Allow non-professional singing in groups of more than six indoors.

However, a few events are being held in June and July. Please support these as we emerge from lockdown.

Covid-19

Current guidance from government, the NHS and others is resulting in amateur music-making organisations shutting down for the duration. As soon as we hear of postponements or cancellations the entries on here will be amended.

Please check with event organisers before venturing out.

This is affecting more than 200,000 people who are members of music groups affiliated to Making Music plus countless thousands of of concert goers.

We wish all all our readers well during these trying times and hope that it won’t be long before we’re all back at rehearsals in readiness to put on concerts for all your enjoyment.

John Parker RIP

It is with deep regret that members of the Exmoor Carolers and Hearts of Oak report the death of one of their founder members, John Parker, who has been a major contributor to the world of Folk Music in North Devon and Exmoor since the early 1970s.

John’s funeral will take place at Pilton Church, Barnstaple, at 12.30 p.m. on Monday 24th June 2019 and his wake will follow at Portmore Golf Club, Landkey Road, Newport, Barnstaple. Family flowers only please, but any donations will go to the North Devon Hospice, which gave John wonderful care, at home, in the final stage of his life.

Vacancy for Accompanist

The  Barnstaple Ladies Choir are looking for an Assistant Accompanist or two!  to help our pianist. We want somebody who would be willing to share playing for concerts and practice so that we are not reliant just on one individual, this is to ease the pressure on our Accompanist having to be available all the time.  We practice on Tuesday nights in Fremington and would be happy to discuss the situation with anyone who might be remotely interested. There is a modest salary available to our pianists. Even if you were only available a few times in a month this might help us.Please contact via email info@barnstapleladieschoir.org or phone our Musical Director Mary Chant on 01271 860500.
